BackIn view of the publication of the White Paper on Artificial Intelligence (AI) by the European Commission, the Chamber of Labour (AK) welcomes the fact that this issue is being addressed at the European level. With the present position paper, the AK wants to make a contribution to this important discussion, which will have far-reaching effects on future life and work.
From AK's point of view, there are three areas in connection with Artificial Intelligence, which are of particular importance and deserve special attention:
- AI and employees
- AI and consumers
- AI and environment
The use of Artificial Intelligence is particularly sensitive in these areas. While the White Paper addresses these issues, further discussion is needed to ensure that AI is properly managed. The AK therefore makes concrete recommendations, which problem areas in the White Paper must therefore be supplemented or clarified:
Particularly, the AK demands stronger protective measures for employees in all applications that have an impact on the world of work. When using AI, employees must also have co-determination rights and the social partners must be involved. Consumer interests must be strengthened and differing levels of protection must be avoided. The Commission proposal offers too little protection against non-transparency, discrimination and manipulation. On the other hand, environmental and climate protection should be given greater consideration when using AI, as should the conservation of resources.
