The Industrial Emissions Directive regulates the impact of 52,000 large-scale industrial and livestock facilities with high pollution risk. An evaluation conducted in 2020 identified certain areas of improvement.

AK supports the direction and focus of the proposal of a revision. Particularly noteworthy is the extension of the scope of the Directive to the keeping of poultry, pigs and cattle. Furthermore, the sanction mechanism shall be revised, through which the Member States will have to provide for more effective sanctions concerning infringments, especially against legal persons. Likewise, improvements for better enforcement of claims for compensation for damage to health are being planned.
