BackThe Brussels offices of the Austrian Chamber of Labour (AK EUROPA) and the Austrian Trade Union Confederation (ÖGB Europabüro), as well as the European Federation of Public Service Unions (EPSU) and the Federation of European Social Employers, cordially invite you to our joint event "On the way to a gender-sensitive and sustainable European Care Strategy".
The Covid-19 pandemic sharpened the focus on system-critical professions across Europe and intensified unpaid care work which is mostly done by women. Against this background, the EU Commission presented its comprehensive EU Care Strategy on 7 September 2022. The strategy intends to contribute to improving the situation of caregivers as well as the quality of care for those in need of it, from elementary education and childcare to long-term care. Previously, the EU Parliament had already passed its own initiative report on the Care Strategy.
At our event, we want to discuss with representatives of European institutions, European and national stakeholders, how training and working conditions in long-term care can be improved across Europe. How do we manage to secure a close-to-home childcare place from the first birthday throughout the EU? How can we ensure sustainable financing of care work in the sense of a nationwide and high-quality public service?
Keynote:
Bernhard Achitz, Ombudsman at the Austrian Ombudsman Board
Panel:
MEP Evelyn Regner, Vice-President of the EP
Renate Anderl, President of the Austrian Chamber of Labour

The event will take place on 17 November 2022 from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. The discussion will be held in German and English (with simultaneous translation).
