BackThe EU Single Market policy will continue to play an important role in the coming six months.
On 1 January the Presidency of the Council of the European Union passed from Slovakia to Malta, who will hold this position for the coming six months. Thereby, the so-called “presidency trio” of the Netherlands, Slovakia and Malta, whose Council Presidencies immediately follow each other and who therefore agreed on a common work programme, will also come to an end. The next presidency trio will commence on 1 July, when Estonia (prior to Bulgaria and Austria 2018) assumes the position.
Key issues that were announced for the coming six months include migration, the single market, security, social inclusion, Europe's neighbours and maritime issues. Other important topics on the agenda will be digital trading and geo blocking, the Capital Markets Union and last but not least the expansion of the European Funds for Strategic Investments (EFSI).
