BackFollowing the White Paper on Artificial Intelligence, the Commission presented a draft regulation on Artificial Intellicence (AI) in April 2021. While the creation of a regulatory framework for AI is to be welcomed in principle, the proposed regulation does not go far enough in many areas from the point of view of AK.
The draft is technology-focused, while there are barely any traces of the originally proclaimed “human-centred” approach. Important protective mechanisms for workers and consumers are lacking, as are possibilities for co-determination. Many (correct) approaches are watered down by exemptions and restrictions. In this sense, the planned legal framework needs to be supplemented and specified in key points. Hereby, the AK calls for strict regulation of uses of AI that affect worker rights, working conditions, and health. Moreover, such uses should on principle be categorised as high-risk.
