Last week, a conference under the title “Network of European Labour and Social Academies - Better Information and Training for Trade Unionists” took place at the European Parliament. The AK EUROPA Office together with the European Academy of Labour, the European Trade Union Institute and the non-governmental organisation SOLIDAR acted as co-organiser of the conference. The Social Academy was presented as a best practice model of trade union education within the scope of a panel discussion.
Best practice model Social Academy was greeted with great interest and recognition

In Austria, the Social Academy provides the most comprehensive training for labour representatives in respect of the training opportunities made available by trade unions, the Austrian Trade Union Federation ÖGB and chambers of labour. As the highest level of trade union education, the Social Academy provides training for trade union leaders. Within in the scope of the conference at the European Parliament, the Social Academy was for the first time also introduced at European level. The interest among conference participants was very high because the educational content of the 10-month course including a one-month internship abroad does not exist in Europe in this form. The conference provided a good opportunity to get information on the various Labour and Social Academies in Europe and to learn from each other with regard to the various training facilities. The present MEPs, the representatives of the EU Commission and many interested participants commented that in particular better information and training of trade unionists in Europe is of vital importance.
