A major shift in consumption towards longer service lives, whilst maintaining high level of protection for European consumers, is indispensable for protection of the climate, environment and resources.

In its Position Paper, AK welcomes the EU Commission's proposals under the circular economy package. Among other things, AK demands that ecological improvements do not make products significantly more expensive. In addition to mandatory performance and information requirements, AK also advocates a ban on the destruction of unsold goods. To strengthen consumers, AK calls for a more sustainable European warranty law, including the extension of legal guarantee periods and longer software update obligations.
