BackThe EU 2020 strategy follows the current Lisbon strategy, which according to the Commission has contributed to overcoming the current crisis. A bold claim that does not stand up to reality. Even before the outbreak of the worst financial and economic crisis, the EU had been far away from many Lisbon targets. The recession made the target date of 2010 completely unrealistic.
What, however, is missing in the new strategy is the commitment to full employment and the reference to the necessity of quantitative goals in order to underpin the new strategic objective target.
