BackOn 26 February 2025, the EU Commission presented the first of several omnibus packages (Omnibus I). Key instruments of the Green Deal will be weakened, in particular the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) and Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD).
AK strongly rejects Omnibus I. The EU Commission emphasises that it is proposing the amendments of the legal acts in the interests of EU competitiveness and simplification. From AK's point of view, this is not an attempt at simplification, but a politically motivated deregulation.
The effectiveness of the instruments is being massively interfered with at the expense of their level of protection, particularly for employees. Competitiveness will not be increased if the ecological transformation and the necessary regulatory interventions are delayed or weakened. In addition, the democratic process and the decision-making of the legal acts concerned are delegitimised.
