The proposed Omnibus Package VII (Digital Omnibus) is much more than a mere simplification of existing regulations put forward by the Commission. Rather, this package proposes serious changes that threaten to lower the current level of consumer and data protection.

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Artificial Intelligence Regulation (AI Regulation) are to be significantly amended without any need and, above all, without a comprehensive impact assessment by the Commission in a legislative procedure that is not suitable for this purpose. For example, the scope of the GDPR is to be restricted at the expense of the fundamental right to data protection, and the rights of data subjects under the GDPR are to be curtailed. In the AI Regulation, privileges are being extended to so-called small mid-cap companies. The Commission's proposal also calls for the abolition of the registration requirement, an important safeguard for transparency, public accountability, and oversight.
