In her speech to the European Parliament, the elected President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced that she would make Europe the first climate-neutral continent by 2050. To achieve this goal, extensive costly efforts will be necessary and calls for a strong EU-budget rise. At this event, the Austrian Institute of Economic Research (WIFO) will present scientific approaches that highlight alternative ways to finance the EU-budget. Subsequently, possibilities for the EU´s system of own resources and expenditures will be discussed on how to most effectively support the fight against climate change at EU-level.
