Rising energy prices, non-functioning markets, worsening energy poverty: Are we prepared for next winter?
Monday, 27th June 2022, 18:30h , Brussels

The Brussels Offices of the Austrian Federal Chamber of Labour (AK EUROPA) and the Austrian Trade Union (ÖGB Europabüro) are pleased to invite you to our event:

Date Monday, 27th June 2022, 18:30h
Venue Permanent Representation of Austria to the EU
Av. de Cortenbergh 30 , 1000 Brussels
Yes, I will attend the event

Energy prices in the EU have been rising sharply since autumn 2021 and are becoming a threat to more and more people. These uncontrolled price rises are not just a result of the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine, but also an indication of the currently non-functioning energy markets. An end to the high price situation is not in sight. The Commission addressed this problem with three toolboxes showing Member States ways to combat energy poverty.

At this event, we will discuss whether the measures presented by the European Commision are sufficient to protect people affected by energy poverty from the coming winter. What action is required at EU level and by the Member States to prepare energy-poor households for the next heating season?

Key speech:

Sandra Matzinger, Austrian Chamber of Labour, Vienna

Panel:

Adela Tesarova, European Commission, DG ENER

Monika de Volder, The European Consumer Organisation (BEUC)

Alexander Friedrich, Austrian People‘s Aid & German Worker‘s Welfare Organisation (AWO)

Moderation:

Anna Gumbau, EU energy and climate journalist

The event will take place on from 18:30 to 20:00. It will be held in English.
After the discussion, we invite you to a buffet reception.
