On January 1, the European Single Market celebrated its 30th anniversary. An important achievement, but there is still a strong need for improvement. The EU's promise of prosperity remains unfulfilled. Instead, there is hard competition at the cost of labour standards and social security. How do we succeed in transforming the European Union into a genuine Social Union and effectively combating cross-border exploitation while guaranteeing fair mobility? We discuss possible solutions with trade unionists from Slovenia and Austria as well as with representatives from the European Parliament and the European Commission.

Keynote:

Tea Jarc, President of Mladi Plus

Panel:

Josef Muchitsch, Chairman of the Austrian Building and Wood Workers’ Union

MEP Evelyn Regner, Vice-President of the European Parliament (S&D)

Claes-Mikael Ståhl, Deputy General Secretary of the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC)

Gelu Calacean, Head of Unit for Labour Mobility, European Commission (DG EMPL)

Moderator:

Aline Hoffmann, European Trade Union Institute (ETUI)
