AK EUROPA & ÖGB Europabüro: Panel Discussion on Hedge Funds and Private Equity
[30-11-2009]

Under considerable political pressure due to the financial crisis, and shortly before the elections to the new European Parliament, in April 2009 the Commission finally came forward with a proposal for a directive to regulate the managers of hedge funds and private equity funds (Alternative Investment Fund Managers).
Right from the start, the proposal has sparked heated controversies. While the financial services industry under the leadership of the City of London has massively mobilised opposition to bring down the proposal, critics of the draft directive claim that it offers too many loopholes and does not regulate the funds themselves.
AK EUROPA and the ÖGB Europabüro want to take up the discussion at a crucial moment when the proposal is being negotiated by Member States and the European Parliament.
